Propane fire injures man
A man refilling a propane tank at a Paradise Cove home was injured when a fire started during the process. The incident occurred a little before 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday.
A local Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesperson said it was not known exactly how the fire began, but it was due to “some sort of malfunction” with the tank. She said the victim was taken to UCLA Medical Center with burns, bud did not know the extent of the injuries. The man’s name was not released.
Firefighters from several local stations arrived on the scene. They took approximately two hours to fully extinguish the blaze. The fire caused approximately $50,000 in property damage.
Council member opposes gas station selling alcohol
Spirit, the gas station located next to Duke’s Malibu on Pacific Coast Highway, has applied to the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control for a license to sell beer and wine. And at least one City Council member is not pleased about it.
Gail Sumpter, the head of the city’s Permit Services Division, said that the applicant must also get a conditional-use permit from the city. The gas station owner has not yet applied for the permit from the city. The Planning Commission votes on conditional-use permits, and a commission decision can be appealed to the City Council.
If the decision does reach the City Council, Andy Stern will not be voting for it. He said in an interview Tuesday, “I don’t know if this will go before me. I hope it does. I am on the record that we have more than enough places on the highway selling beer and wine.”
