Swimmer Kennan Hotchkiss swam off with three awards due to a stellar 2016-17 swim season and snagged four top finishes at the Malibu Seawolves’ Blue vs. Green Intrasquad Meet on Sept. 23 at the Malibu High pool.
Hotchkiss, 16, was tabbed as the swim club’s MVP, boys’ 13 & over Swimmer of the Year and winner of the Individual Performance of the Year award thanks to a seventh-place finish in the Los Angeles Invitational’s 1,500-meter freestyle last July at USC.
At the Seawolves meet, which pitted the youth team’s members against each other, Hotchkiss won three races that featured boy and girl swimmers ages 13 and older including the 100-yard backstroke in 01.16 minutes, the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:11.96 and the 100-yard freestyle in 51.37.
Max Jaben, program head of the Seawolves, said the blue vs. green event was held to get the Seawolves ready for the swim season. The coach said all the meet times were official and USA Swimming judges were present.
“This meet marked a milestone for us and it was the first time we used our new timing system and scoreboard at the Malibu swimming pool,” Jaben noted.
