City politics fishy

What is this idiocy with this city and the Farmers Market? I loved Sunday mornings at our old Farmers Market that was run by a local group named Cornucopia. I bought my fruits and veggies for the week, ate and strolled. I couldn’t figure out what happened to it, and why the city didn’t fix whatever supposed zoning snafu there was, pronto.

Now the snafu is fixed, and instead of green lighting whatever permit the gods of bureaucracy deem necessary, the city dumps the Cornucopia project from the agenda to wait for an outsider to finish its paperwork?! Not just an outsider, but a chain – as if Malibu’s small businesses aren’t under enough siege

Okay, then we should immediately replace the Kiwanis Club operating the Chili Cook-Off, right? And, of course, that should extend to getting outsiders to do the Flea Market, and the Art Show, and the Book Fair, and the Wine Tasting because, obviously the local yokels can’t deliver “quality.” Did I miss something here? These events require work and organization, but they are not nuclear installations requiring physicists. For whatever moles and warts our events have, they are our particulars moles and warts and Malibu can take care of its own.

The next brilliance is that the city will permit TWO operators?! I don’t smell fresh fruits and vegetables here. I smell fish-political fish. Seems to be a lot of that going around from this City Council and their appointees-seems like that fishy smell starts around Trancas and continues down our beloved Malibu coast.

That Cornucopia group is known, especially at the schools, for all that it has put back into our community. The City Council and their appointed commissions need to become re-acquainted with a few definitions-local-community sentiment-loyalty. Get over the political egos and do what’s right for Malibu. We could have had a great market this summer and it is squarely the fault of this city government that we have nothing.
