If you’re wondering why your phone blasted off last night … it was the C H P alerting about a car stolen with two little kids in it … 150 miles from Malibu.
The kidnapping was at 6:30 last night in the Coachella Valley city of Cathedral City.
The Highway Patrol activated the Amber Alert across Southern California . including L-A County.
The two children were found safe … at 2:30 this morning … in Desert Hot Springs.

L A County road crews say the rain this month has delayed their work in Malibu Canyon.
County crews are removing rocks from cliffs above the highway near the tunnel.
Also … they are scraping out truckload after truckload of rocks and dirt that has fallen on Malibu Canyon Road this winter.
Daytime lane restrictions … with flaggers alternating traffic and trucks occasionally blocking both directions … are in effect on weekdays from 9 a-m to 4 p-m.
And the construction period has been extended a week … it was supposed to be done by next Friday … Warnings are out now … the work will continue through Friday April 4th.

The proposed cemetery in downtown Malibu will be open for public debate in two weeks.
The proposed Malibu Memorial Park would be at the corner of PCH and Malibu Canyon Road … if it ever gets built.
Developer Richard Weintraub is putting forth plans for the mausoleum .. cemetery and underground parking garage on the site … which is the same place where his gigantic spa and hotel was proposed four years ago.
Plans for the spa were dropped after residents said it was far too big for the site.
The Malibu Cemetery would have Space for 28,265 graves … plus 3,644 interments in above
grade wall crypt structures.
But is this project a case of “Dead Man Walking” ???
The powerful parks agency … M-R-C-A … and Coastal Commission staff have said the land is not zoned for a cemetery under the state’s Local Coastal Program … the L C P that regulates land use inMalibu.
Coastal has wanted a modest hotel at that site for 30 years …. it’s the last place in Malibu where a hotel can be built … and the commission has said Malibu is severely underserved with hotel rooms for coastal visitors.
The city quietly added cemeteries to the approved uses for the land several years ago … without getting Coastal permission.
In addition … there are questions about the city’s evaluation of the proposed cemetery…. which does not analyze the impact of funeral procession tying up Pacific Coast Highway or Malibu Canyon Road.
The city’s traffic impacts also do not examine Sunday or heavy beach day traffic … and how the cemetery would affect that.

Remember the castle that used to sit over Malibu Lagoon .. until it was burned down in the 2007 power pole fire?
A new house has been built there … a spec house … and an internet site reports it’s been put on the market for a staggering $80 million.
The asking price sets a record for Malibu.
It’s called “The New Castle.”
Filmmaker-turned-developer Scott Gillen, who has developed 22 properties with over $130 million in sales, purchased the land in 2015 for $9.7 million.
The new house has been under construction for several years.
One room alone, the cigar room, took six months and over $1 million to build.
Also included in the sale is complimentary one-year concierge service.
It’s for sale for $80 million.

Monday night … AMPS and school leaders are urging Malibu residents to attend the city council meeting.
At about 7 .. the regular council meeting will turn into a workshop setting.
Members of the Malibu Unification Negotiations Committee (will present th eproposed divorce agreement.
This is for splitting the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District into two,
separate school districts for Santa Monica and Malibu.
Both districts would be separate …the unified part refers to both elementary and high schools within each district.
Who gets what?
And why will Malibu send money to Santa Monica for a few years?

In KBUU sports …. The Malibu Sharks baseball team lost Wednesday’s home conference game against Grace Brethren by a score of 6-5.
They play Grace Brethren again … in Simi Valley …today.
The Malibu boys volleyball team went down 3-0 at Carpinteria yesterday.
They next play next Tuesday at Santa Clara in Oxnard.
And …. the Malibu Sharks girls softball team lost yesterday … against Villanova Prep by a score of 10-4.
