Malibu Times Multimedia Director Julie Ellerton hit the streets this week to ask, “What is the traditional holiday fare in your family?”
“Every Christmas, the whole family gets together and we make nut bread from a recipe passed down from my grandmother. It tastes amazing and we love it. It’s the only thing I ask my grandmother for at Christmas. I plan to keep the tradition going and hopefully it will be handed down from generation to generation.” – Brooke Moore
“My girlfriend Ildiko is Hungarian and her mom, every Christmas, makes these pastries — a traditional pastry made in Hungary for generations. Ildiko is passing on the tradition to her daughter Celine, so every year we have these glorious pastries, tons of them, to take home and eat for a month and they’re incredible, but whew, after awhile you’re ready to wait till next year.” – John Densmore
“We usually go to our favorite Chinese restaurant, Sam Woo BBQ; we usually get takeout, go back to the house and have a good time. It became a tradition a few years ago because our family started to dwindle a little bit. I’m half Chinese and half Sicilian. My grandfather has been taking me to this place since we were little kids; it’s a very nostalgic feeling and the food is authentic and traditional.” – Daniel William Colella
“My family, well, me and my dad, we’re super into spear fishing. We don’t do a lot of red meat — my mom’s vegan. We were all raised vegan for a really long time, but now we eat seafood; not so much red meat. So now my dad and I go every morning and we spear fish the lobsters and my mom cooks them. You can do it right off of Point Dume; there’s a lot of lobsters out there in Little Dume.” – Lucinda Aragon
