Last Sunday’s heavy winds didn’t deter Malibu residents and other supporters of the Malibu Community Labor Exchange (MCLE) from attending a special screening of Daniel Baldwin’s award-winning film “The Wisdom to Know the Difference,” presented at Pepperdine University’s Elkins Auditorium.
This event, sponsored by the SOBA Recovery Center of Malibu, was the Labor Exchange’s biggest fundraising event of the year. Several hundred people gathered to view this powerful film about addiction and change. Afterward, they were able to share some personal moments with Daniel Baldwin and his co-star Mayra Leal about the film’s creation. After a discussion with the actors, Greg Hannley, the founder of SOBA, presented a check for $10,000 to support MCLE and its vital work in the Malibu community.
At this time of Thanksgiving, we at MCLE want to express our gratefulness to the Malibu community for its faithful support, including Pepperdine University for generously providing a roomy and comfortable venue and Frank’s Famous Kitchen and Bakery for providing a delightful and savory reception for our attendees.
We especially want to thank Daniel Baldwin and Mayra Leal for touching our lives with their personal stories. And, most of all, we extend a huge debt of gratitude to Greg Hannley for offering this screening as a fundraiser and for his invaluable support to the MCLE. This will help us continue our mission to provide a safe and organized location for day laborers to share their skills with our community members through work because jobs create independence and self-sufficiency.
Many thanks and a Happy Thanksgiving to all from the MCLE!
