Misleading information

This past weekend I went to all the tables representing the yes on “M” vote, set up in the market areas around town. The yes on Measure M people want you to believe what they say, and ask you to believe them even though they don’t provide you with scientific facts or consistent information. When I asked a reasonable and simple question, I received platitudes. I don’t know why they do that. Measure M may negatively effect every residential property value in Malibu.

I ask a simple question: If the Mayor has stated, since before the agreement was completed, that the sewage treatment plant on the Chili Cook-Off property that will serve all the Civic Center Developments will be “6,500 square feet and below ground,” then why does the Measure M Development Agreement (DA) state in section 4.1 that the “treatment facilities shall not exceed 28 feet in height, or 30,000 square feet in area”?

I want a discussion. Why does it have to be one facility in the middle of the floodplain that serves all the Civic Center properties? Can’t it be two small sewage treatment plants (self contained package plants) in the upland areas where it is geologically stable. If that one breaks down (and it will because it is in the middle of a floodplain) children are going to be in harm’s way and it will cost the city an enormous amount of lost revenue. I cannot get a reasonable answer to this simple question. Jeff Jennings answered with an explanation cleverly fraught with “criminalogical inexactitudes.”

I like the fact that Jerry Perenchio is willing to sell his Chili Cook-off property as part of the DA for a park. But, this Malibu City Council sold out the neighborhood with this one huge sewage treatment plant on that site. This ill-placed sewage treatment plant in the heart of Malibu may affect all our property values as well as the health of surfers and the marine life in the Malibu Lagoon. Please don’t be misled. M does not clean up the lagoon. M will create a worse problem by encouraging and supporting a massive amount of unsustainable and irresponsible development.

I understand now that I won’t get reasonable answers or I’ll get some answer based on a fantastic notion or uneducated viewpoints. M supporters unwisely support unreasonable development that will ruin Malibu forever. It is better to err on the side of caution. Vote no on M.
