Letters for a safer Malibu

For most of the 40 years I have lived beside Pacific Coast Highway, our community has been trying to slow down traffic on our “main street.” However, it seems that we have more traffic than ever and it is going even faster. PCH is not a freeway!

Now we have a chance to take a step forward in our fight. Our city has been working with Assemblymember Fran Pavley on AB 1009. This legislation would establish a double-fine zone on PCH from Topanga Canyon to Decker Canyon and also establish enhanced criteria for assessing the appropriate speed limit along PCH. The bill is scheduled to be heard in the Assembly Transportation Committee in Sacramento on April 21. Representatives from the city and Sheriff s Department will testify, but letters from the community are essential. Please send your letter in support of AR 1009 to:

Assembly member Fran Pavley, California Assembly District 41 Capita1 Building #5128 Sacramento, CA 95814.

Though the hearing is April 21, our letters must reach Fran’s office on or before April 14. Support of this bill is a priority for our City Council. Please make it a priority for you, too, and send your letter today. Ask your friends and neighbors to do the same.

Nothing is going to ease the pain my family is feeling from the loss of my son-in-law. Mark was killed while standing near the gate to our home by an out-of-control car that was traveling too fast. AB 1009 will get the attention of PCH motorists, creating a safer Malibu.
