This is an alert from the Malibu Township Council Board of Directors of yet another change in the hearing schedule for the applications associated with the Malibu Bay Company Development Agreement. The Planning Commission hearing for March 29 to hear the changes required to accommodate the Bay Company Development Agreement Trancas area projects was cancelled.
Last Tuesday night, many of us applauded the planning commissioners’ unanimous vote to slow down the accelerated hearing schedule for the Bay Company applications. However, despite the unanimous decision and the commissioners’ stated concerns that this schedule is overtaxing the capability of the staff to provide adequate information in a timely manner necessary to proceed with the hearings and address the many issues involved properly, the council is disregarding this and is proceeding with the ambitious accelerated schedule, which started last Tuesday with the Point Dume Donation Agreement. Notices have been posted at City Hall, in addition to the one for April 21 published in the Surfside News, setting the following schedule: April 15-Trancas properties; April 21-Civic Center properties, April 29-Constraints report and May 5, a final Planning Commission decision. All meetings will be at the new City Hall council chambers on Stuart Ranch Road.
Depending on how the commissioners motion is worded, these applications, if approved by the commission and/or council, could give the Malibu Bay Company entitlements necessary to develop their properties as described in the development agreement whether that agreement is approved by the voters or the council.
If you are concerned about the effect this massive development plan will have on the character and quality of life in Malibu, please plan to attend these hearings and voice your concern. Please tell your friends and neighbors, and urge their participation also.
