Ticket those speeders

There’s been a lot of talk about speeding on PCH.  Since I drive it four days a week into LA, I have some observations.  I have been actively writing down license plates and reporting them to the great sheriff’s intervention program called STTOP (www.sttop.net) something I highly recommend. it seems to me there are other measures to fix the problem besides littering the highway with more signs.

Signs and median deterrents, while well intentioned, are not the way to make an impact.  No matter what the speed limit signs say, I see cars and large trucks going 60 MPH and sometimes even 70.  I know all the speed traps, so do the speeders and anyone can find them at speedtrap.org.

Let’s not make PCH even uglier in a town that’s supposed to be rural by putting in more and more signs. They are useless.  Enforcement is the only way to stop people from speeding.  So let’s spend money on more cops.  We have plenty of money to throw around on dog parks and pretty center dividers.  Let’s ask the city to spend some on more enforcement.

And, by the way, if you have a safety issue, rather than creating new groups to spearhead it, make a trip to the Public Safety Commission.  Meetings are the first Wednesday of every month (except this one) at City Hall at 6 p.m.  Come and make your case.  We’re here to help and it’s the best way to get action on your issues.
