The level playing field Malibu has always enjoyed ih Council races has been slanted 90 degrees by Ozzie Silna, a non-resident, who appears to be spending close to $100,000 on phone campaigns, ads and mailers, fabricating the records of Councilmembers Jennings and Kearsley. These two councilmembers, to their great credit, are obeying the law and strictly adhering to Malibu’s $100 donation limit There seems to be no limit to what Ozzie Silna will spend to achieve a takeover of Malibu by his co-conspirators at the Coastal Commission, who plan to force easements on homeowners and fee us and fine us out of our homes. When his telemarketers from Miami phoned recently and tried to scare me about “development,” I had to inform them that the only projects Jennings and Kearsley approved in the last eight years were a restaurant addition and a Bed and Breakfast. It is ironic that Mr. Silna, Mr. Liebig and Mr. Mazza, all self-proclaimed commercial real estate developers have the hubris to try to attach that label to a Little League dad and a retired teacher, who have never developed anything in their lives. Kearsley and Jennings declined to help developers by failing to convert the Bay Company agreement into smaller agreements that were exempt from Malibu’s 30 acre voter threshhold. Instead they made it tough on developers by submitting the proposal to a citizens’ vote. It speaks to this town’s overwhelming support for Kearsley and Jennings that their opponents must resort to hiring strangers from the other side of the United States to call every Malibuite in an effort to diminish the Council’s outstanding accomplishments. Apparently CAN is unable to find anyone here who would agree to cooperate with their abysmal propaganda.
