A prank sign found on Interstate 15, which connects Los Angeles to Las Vegas.

Fake sanctuary state signs were put up near California borders to Nevada and Arizona around New Year’s Day. Many captured photos of the prank signs, posting to websites such as Facebook and Twitter.

A sign on Interstate 15 said “Official Sanctuary City—Felons, Illegals and MS13 Welcome! Democrats Need The Votes!” with the California state seal and Democratic Party logo.

The signs are believed to be a response following SB 54, a bill declaring the state a sanctuary state that was signed by California Governor Jerry Brown on Oct. 5.

According to reports, the signs were removed shortly.

Malibu residents are all too familiar with the prank. The city woke up to prank sanctuary city signs—one on the north end and the other on the south end (near Topanga)—last April. The one posted on the north end read “Official Sanctuary City—’Cheap Nannies and Gardeners Make Malibu Great!’ (Boyle Heights Not So Much).”
