Haste in every business brings failures. I’m horror-struck that Laura Rosenthal, co-chair of Proposition “Big Bucks,” believes bond measures are the only way to bankroll schools. I went on the Internet and did a Google search of counties without property taxes or parcel taxes. I came up with so many intelligent fair alternatives I don’t have the freedom to list them in this short space. So what is Ms. Rosenthal’s explanation for not knowing about these alternatives? Why didn’t Proposition BB creators do their research?
As Ms. Rosenthal herself points out, it is because there’s a limited time to get state matching funds. This is what Proposition BB is all about. Rush through a shoddy bond and slap another $200 million in debt on the backs of the Malibu property owners, just so you can get matching funds from the state! That is bad government by any definition. The age-old adage is “Haste Makes Waste.”
