The A Chance for Children Foundation and Pepperdine men’s water polo partnered together for their annual day of aquatic activities for inner-city children.
Fourth and fifth graders from the Boys to Gentlemen program in Watts, Los Angeles attended the Waves’ game against UC Santa Barbara on Nov. 15 and had the chance to play water polo themselves after the game ended. Since only one of the boys knew how to swim, each was given an inner tube to float in and a water polo partner from the Pepperdine team.
“Several of the Pepperdine players came up to me and thanked me for the opportunity,” Tai Collins, of A Chance for Children, said. “They were really good with the kids.”
The kids also got a chance to meet Olympians Terry Schroeder and Merrill Moses, who both coach at Pepperdine.
A Chance for Children and Pepperdine water polo have been coordinating the water polo event annually for almost 20 years. Former Waves goalie Jack Curly came from San Francisco to attend the event, which he volunteered at during his four years on the team.
