E. John Scott

E. John “Jack” Scott, a longtime local, died Nov. 1. He was 86.

Scott was born April 1, 1924 and was raised in California and Ohio. He met his high school sweetheart, Ellen, in Ohio and the two were married for 67 years, until his death. The couple built their home in Malibu, where they raised their family, more than 50 years ago.

Scott enlisted in the Army Air Corps Cadets, known today as the U.S. Air Force, at age 29. He was awarded the Presidential Regular Air Force Commission appointment, rather than reserve status like most other enlistees. Scott survived an airplane accident in Texas, which left him unable to walk on his own. However, after a few years of rehabilitation he was able to obtain a private pilot’s license and fly again.

Scott completed his Juris Doctorate at Loyola Marymount University and Southwestern School of Law. He practiced law for many years in Santa Monica with the firm Crawford, Scott and McDaniel until his retirement.

Scott is remembered for his insight, wit and compassion for family and friends. He will be laid to rest with military honors at the Sawtelle National Veterans Cemetery in Los Angeles.

Scott is survived by his wife and two children John and Erin.

A memorial service took place Dec. 1 in Santa Monica.
