The Planning Commission voted 3-1 on Tuesday to select local nonprofit Cornucopia Foundation to be the sole operator of the Malibu Farmers’ Market. Cornucopia had been competing with Calabasas-based Raw Inspiration for the conditional use permit to run the market. The commission decision can be appealed to the City Council.

Cornucopia ran the market at the county-owned Civic Center parking lot until 2005. The battle for control of a local market has been ongoing since then. Cornucopia must still get a permit from the county to use the property for the market. If it is able to hold the market, Cornucopia plans to hold it on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

More information about the Cornucopia selection, including reaction from those involved, will appear in the upcoming print edition of The Malibu Times.
