I have been a part of Malibu since I was born in 1951. My folks were already established here, having built the Malibu Riviera Motel.

One of the first friends I met at about age eight was Dusty Peak. I became friends with Dusty and his younger brother, Marty, and we hung out.

At age 10, Dusty and I joined the brand-new junior lifeguard program at Zuma Beach. I remember Mrs. Peak (Dusty’s mom), and my mom would drive us kids to events like a surf day at San Onofre, or a competition in Redondo Beach to compete against other junior lifeguard programs. At age 14, Marty, Dusty and I joined Malibu Little League. We were the Mayfairs,  and Mr. Peak was our assistant coach. He would drive the three of us kids to our games and coach us. They were great folks.

You can see where I’m going with this — Skylar has some pretty deep roots in this town, and it shows in his compassion for the preservation of this beautiful place we have here, and with our kids’ future in mind. He won’t let you down and he will always be honest with you.

Thanks to Dusty and Denise, and Mr. and Mrs. Peak, we have Skylar for mayor. I like that.
