Sunday, Sept. 7: Contrary to a report of all lanes open on Saturday, Edison crews were on scene Sunday and have implemented intermittent lane closures on Pacific Coast Highway at Corral Canyon Road.

“The #1 lane in each direction will be open, subject to temporary closures until completion. The anticipated time to completion is approximately 5 hours,” according to Lt. James Royal of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station.

UPDATE: All lanes of traffic were reopened by 7:13 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Traffic is shut down across all lanes of the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu on Saturday, from Latigo Canyon Rd. to John Tyler Road, due to a downed power line.

This has caused traffic to back up for miles in both directions as Southern California Edison crews are out attempting to restore power and replace the pole.

“I do know that Edison has completed their part,” Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff Lieutenant Williams said around 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon, adding, “there is a secondary line from Verizon.”

As of 1 o’clock, Verizon crews were not yet on the scene, according to Williams.

The cause of the downed pole is so far unclear, as according to Sheriffs there was no accident or incident to cause the downed power lines.

“The upper portion just kind of snapped,” Williams told the Malibu Times. He added that “it wasn’t caused by an accident or anybody crashing into it.”

According to the California Edison website, power was out to 244 customers in the area.Â
