Man shot to death in Latigo Canyon

A resident of Latigo Canyon discovered a blood-stained body riddled with gunshot wounds, lying on Mulholland Highway, after shots were reported fired in the hills above Malibu late last Thursday night.

The victim of an apparent homicide, the man was identified as Adrian Barral, 30, from Van Nuys. “Paramedics tried to treat him but pronounced him dead at the scene,” said L.A. County Sheriff’s homicide Lt. Jack Jordan. “He was shot a number of times in the upper torso.”

Sheriff’s officials responded to a call at about 8 p.m. from a witness who heard multiple gunshots in the vicinity of Mulholland Highway at Latigo Road, a dark, sparsely populated location “in the middle of nowhere,” Jordan said. Deputies investigated the surrounding areas, but left after finding nothing amiss. Nearly four hours later, a second witness discovered “someone bleeding in the road,” and also called authorities.

This latest shooting is being investigated in connection with the Sycamore Cove homicides, Jordan said.

The homicides took place recently near Sycamore Cove State Beach, killing two men and leaving a woman critically injured. Newbury residents Levi A. Orellana, 32, and Francisco Orellana Miranda, 36, were shot to death Jan. 26 off Pacific Coast Highway. The woman who was with them is still recovering from gunshot wounds.

A possible witness to the Sycamore Cove attacks is still wanted for questioning, said Ventura County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ron Nelson. He is described as a white male in his late 20s or early 30s, with fair hair and skin, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall and 160-170 pounds.
