The very best broadcasts are on FM. This includes opera, classical, jazz, country, and folk. It offers the best moderate political commentary, old radio programs, drama, even humor.
FM has been offered since the start of cable service. It was free at first but Charter Cable began to charge an extra fee. This was satisfactory until February, when Charter Cable closed access. It offered no reason in advance, but cut off FM reception.
This deprives citizens of Malibu of much cultural and educational pleasure. As it was the only path to FM reception, it was drastic and insulting.
FM flows as line of sight, blocked by the hills that line the coast of Malibu. Roof top antennas cannot receive this interrupted signal. So Charter Cable has given us silence. It is a nasty gift. If Charter Cable has been given the right to service our area and charge us for that service, we have the right to receive FM.
