Beware of parking laws

I thought I should inform everyone that lives near Allegria to beware. I live across the street from Allegria and used to go in about twice a week. Since parking is very tough, especially in the summer, I had to park my car on PCH near Allegria while I went on vacation for a couple weeks. When I returned, Allegria had my car towed from near their restaurant. The towing and storage of my car cost me $370. When I went to Malibu Towing they informed me that the manager of Allegria (Tom) had called almost everyday to have my car towed. When Malibu towing finally arrived, they told him the car is not on private property and cannot be towed without the sheriff. So again the manager of Allegria called the sheriff’s department enough times until they took time out of pulling over drunk drivers or stopping crime to come and issue a warning to move my car.

Let me preface this with I do not have an old beat up car. I have a new BMW, it is not an eye sore or leaking. Even the people at Malibu Towing didn’t understand why they needed to have my car towed, the address showed up as right across the street.

What the sheriff told me is that there is a law that says a car has to be moved from a public street every 72 hours. When I asked why isn’t there a sign posted to this affect, they said that we cannot post all the laws on signs; it’s a book two inches thick. Well how was I supposed, to know that there is a law? I live on a major public street.

So when I went to ask for a reimbursement from Allegria the manager said well, maybe you should rethink going on vacation that long. I asked to have the owner Franco Simplicio call me regarding this situation, the manager said he would take a message. Two hours later I received a call from the manager stating that Franco will not return my call, nor did they care about losing a loyal customer. I believe there is a common decency that we lack in our nation these days. The correct resolve for this situation should have been a call from the owner apologizing, not a complete disregard for paying customers.

PCH residents, beware of your cars when you go on vacation!
