Pepperdine Golfers Qualify for U.S. Amateur Championship

Four members of Pepperdine’s golf team have qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship. Sahith Theegala, Roy Cootes, Joshua McCarthy and Clay Feagler are a part of the 312-player field that will all be competing in hopes of becoming the next champion.

The tournament will be taking place at Riviera Country Club and Bel-Air Country Club, both of which are located in Southern California. The competition starts on Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 14-15 with simple stroke play. The rounds will be divided between the two country clubs and the top 64 players will move on to Wednesday, Aug. 16, in which they will compete in a more complicated match play.

Theegala is set to play the Riviera course on Monday and the Bel-Air course on Tuesday while Cootes, Feager and McCarthy will be playing Bel-Air on Monday and then move onto Riviera for Tuesday.

The tournament will come to a close on the day of the championship Sunday, August 20,

and all matchplay will be covered live at Riviera by FS1 and FOX.

All four players have earned All-WCC first team honors in 2016-17, they helped the waves get to a 13th place finish at the NCAA Championships as well as assisted Pepperdine in achieving a national ranking of 20 by Golfstat. So if you’re looking for a team to bet on Pepperdine isn’t a bad choice.
