Letter: Benefits for Locals

Prior to visiting the Malibu Kiwanis Chili Cook-Off, my position on this issue was bordering on indifference — I can live with or without a Whole Foods (preferably with), so what’s the big controversy?

After visiting with the folks at the Whole Foods booth, I must say I am impressed. As a single guy, I love Whole Foods and frequently shop at the Santa Monica, Brentwood and Venice locations. I love the hot food and sushi bar, and we are frequently reminded that there just are no quality prepared food options at the markets here in town.

The designs for Whole Foods in the Park look amazing and ideally kids can spend time in this space as well. So, I had to ask, what’s the catch? Why would anybody oppose this if the only arguments are that Whole Foods is lying about its intentions to move in here despite a seven-year lease (laughable) and that Whole Foods will somehow lure shoppers from nearby communities that already have Whole Foods (ridiculous)? Obviously, this one is for the locals. I am comfortable supporting this project.
