On the morning of Thursday, Jan. 7, Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station detectives conducted a search warrant at a home in Reseda and recovered several hundred pieces of stolen mail, according to a release from Lieutenant James Royal of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station.
Thirty-two-year-old Wilfredo Marquez, a Reseda resident, was arrested for multiple counts of mail theft, identity theft, credit card fraud and other theft-related crimes, some of which have impacted Malibu residents.
Detectives found numerous credit cards, multiple stolen checks, personal identifying information, driver’s licenses, mail box keys and other stolen property in Marquez’s home.
Marquez was then transported to and booked at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station.
Assistance with the arrest was provided by investigators with the United States Postal Inspection Service, who will now be presenting the case to federal prosecutors.
The crimes occurred throughout Southern California cities over several months, including Malibu, Agoura Hills, Moorpark, Simi Valley and Canoga Park.
The United States Postal Inspection Service recovered the stolen mail and will be in contact with the victims in the near future, according to Royal.
