State officials says nearly 50 percent of the properties participating in the state debris removal program have been cleared.

State contractors have removed debris generated by the Woolsey and Hill fires from 441 properties in Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

That’s just below half of the 906 parcels in both counties so far determined to be eligible for the state program.

So far … contractors have removed nearly 181,000 tons of burned metal, concrete, ash and soil since operations began on February 6.

Many of the construction crews are preparing to wrap up operations in Malibu in the next week or two and move up to the devastation in paradise.

That Northern California city was largely wiped out by the campfire at the same time Malibu was on fire.

The state sent most of the demolition crews to Malibu first … while roads in other critical infrastructure were repaired in Paradise and Magalia.

They’re ready for heavy equipment now … so some of the crews working Malibu will be heading north.

——

In other news this morning … city officials now say Malibu’s Community Pool at Malibu High School will now be closed until at least Friday.

The pool has a leaky pipe .. buried 7 feet beneath concrete.

This is the latest in a series of maintenance problems to close the popular pool.

Two events at Malibu City Hall tonight may be worth your consideration.

Metro will be golding its “Next Gen” bus presentation … from 6-7:30 tonight at Malibu City Hall.

Also … fire experts from Australia will be describing lessons learned on how to build a resilient house … and a resilient community .. after major fire.

That’s tonight from 6 to 8:30 at Malibu City Hall.

——

And finally … outreach workers and Los Angeles County sheriffs deputies will be at Legacy Park today.

A cluster of about ten homeless people is being asked to move.

Workers begin about 45 days ago … making contact with the people and telling them about housing services and other resources for them.

The people have been told it’s time to move into real housing.

Today is the deadline to leave the park.

We’ll have more on this story tomorrow.
