Children in the Full Circle Learning “Habits of Heart” after-school program check out the art pieces in Legacy Park last week while visiting on a field trip.

Children in the Full Circle Learning “Habits of Heart” club after-school program at Tarzana Elementary School took a field trip to Legacy Park in celebration of Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday Oct. 2.

During the visit, Malibu City Councilmember John Sibert read a poem to the group, Councilmember Skylar Peak spoke to the children about the wildlife that lives in the park and City Manager Jim Thorsen led the group on a walk through the park.

“The children are learning about ‘farsightedness,’” instructor Miguel Pena said. “Like Gandhi—who was a humanitarian, envisioned a better world, a future, in which conflict was resolved peacefully—the children came out to see Legacy Park and honor those involved in creating it. The City Council…helped create a park that will be there for future generations to enjoy, and helped create a park that preserves the natural beauty of the ocean, while helping to conserve water without infringing on the indigenous wildlife and their habitat.”
