Los Angeles fire department officials confirm that he prescribed burn is indeed planned for the Big Rock area … and they promise take the matter before the Malibu community before plans are finalized.

Another mountain lion in the Santa Monica Mountains has been treated for a disease that is believed to be triggered by people using rat poison to kill rodents.
P 53 … an adult female mountain lion living in the mountains above Malibu … was spotted by researchers using remote cameras with symptoms of mange.
Her fur was scruffy, her face looked swollen, and her eyes were squinted nearly shut.
Mange is a parasitic skin disease that causes crusting and skin lesions.
Jeff Sikich, the biologist studying the mountain lions, recaptured P-53 and treated her skin … then released her back into the wild.
Now, researchers are waiting to see how she will react to the treatment, said Kate Kuykendall, a spokeswoman for the National Park Service.
Blood tests are at the lab … to confirmed suspicions that rat poison is in her blood.
Researchers believe the rat pison causes mange … but they are not sure exactly why.
Poisoned rodents get eaten by coyotes … who die and in turn get eaten by cougars.
P-53 is the fifth mountain lion in the National Park Service study to be diagnosed with mange since 2002.
Of the five mange-diagnosed cats, two have died due to internal bleeding caused by rat poison ingestion.
