Letter: Be The Hero

Most everyone paying attention around Malibu knows the city is trying to buy the Yamaguchi property for a park. This is indeed a golden opportunity.

This seven-acre flat parcel will finally allow construction of the skate park and athletic fields Malibu needs, and unlike Bluffs Park with its overlay of ESHA districts, we could start building in six to eight months instead of fighting lawsuits for years.

With ever increasing property values, 10 years from now this purchase will seem like a bargain, and our city staff and current city council will look like heroes.

I urge everyone who wants ball fields, an aquatic center, skate park or anyone who wants Bluffs Park to remain as open space, to contact the city council or, better, speak at the council meeting on June 12. I urge our council and city staff to make certain this opportunity does not slip away.
