Malibu United Soccer Club is hosting its first annual 7v7 charity soccer tournament on Saturday at Malibu High School. The tournament is raising money for “Global Bridges Foundation,” a nonprofit that contributes to the alleviation of poverty and hunger, and works toward a more compassionate, peaceful world by funding self-sustaining programs. Global Bridge will also match whatever funds are raised during the tournament.
The tournament will consist of eight teams from throughout Los Angeles County. Several of the teams will consist of Malibu residents made up of Malibu United players, former United players and Malibu High alumni. Tournament organizers James Whalen and Vidy Ravenborg expect a competitive, fun-spirited tournament. Several local businesses will also be on hand to help raise money for the cause.
The first game will kick off at 9 a.m. and games should continue into the late afternoon. Admission is free and people are encouraged to contribute to the charity.
