Fifth-grade students at Point Dume Marine Science Elementary School requested a meeting with Orlando Griego, the school district director of Food and Nutrition Services, to discuss how to make school lunches healthier. The students met last week with Griego and the PTA President, Michelle Bernadou, to talk about implementing new and healthier food items to the menu.
New menu items that were discussed include fruit salad, hummus dip with fresh-cut vegetables, edamame, soup and organic fruit popsicles. Griego named their program “The Young Scholars Lunch Program,” and a trial run for its menu is planned for a day in May.
