Malibu Swimmer Qualifies for Olympic Trials

Malibu swimmer Logan Hotchkiss qualified for the Olympic Trials in the 200-meter freestyle at the Speedo Grand Challenge swim meet on May 27-29 in Irvine. 

Hotchkiss touched the wall in a time of 1:51.57, putting him below the qualifying standard of 1:51.89 and locking in a sixth-place overall finish in the event. He then went on to post another successful performance in the 400-meter freestyle, finishing seventh overall and just short of a trials standard with a time of 4:00.69. 

Hotchkiss grew up training with Malibu Seawolves Swimming and currently competes for the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he will begin his sophomore year in the fall.

Malibu native Jordan Wilimovsky also attended the meet, where he won the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 3:52.34 and dipped under the trials standard for the first time in the event. He was the first swimmer to qualify for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team in the 10-kilometer open water swim in at open water World Championships in August 2015. Wilimovsky swims for Northwestern University and also represents local swim club Team Santa Monica.

Both swimmers will travel to Omaha, Neb. later this month to compete at Olympic Trials from June 26 through July 3.
