SAR Rescues Hiker Aug. 7

Last weekend, the Malibu Search and Rescue (SAR) team successfully completed three separate rescue missions near Malibu.

On Friday, Aug. 7 around 4:45 p.m., a 32-year-old female hiker injured herself at the Rock Pool at Malibu Creek State Park. Malibu SAR and the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station responded to the call. California State Parks Rangers, State Parks Lifeguards and L.A. County Fire (LACo Fire) personnel combined efforts with the rescue team over the waters of the popular Rock Pool. When SAR arrived on scene, two State Parks lifeguards were already assisting the victim back to the shore. She was then secured into a litter basket and ushered to safety via helicopter, according to Malibu SAR.

The Rock Pool, a dangerous location within the creek noted for its freezing water and slippery rocks, has accounted for numerous injuries over the years, according to Malibu SAR.

A day after the incident at Malibu Creek, at approximately 10:45 a.m. Sunday morning, a woman was thrown off her horse near Agoura. The 57-year-old was riding her horse in Cheeseboro Canyon when a passing bicycle spooked it, causing him to buck her off. Upon impact with the ground, the woman hit her head and may have lost consciousness, Malibu SAR reported. Malibu SAR and LACo Fire responded and after thorough evaluation, concluded that the female suffered from only minor injuries.

Later that evening at Pirates Cove in Malibu, a man broke his leg while climbing up the cliffs. Combining efforts with LA County Sheriff’s deputies, rescue personnel hoisted the climber to safety as hide tide prevented them from a ground landing, said Malibu SAR.
