Hannah Frohling of the Pepperdine women’s volleyball team was announced as a member of the all-West Coast Conference preseason squad last Tuesday, capping off a successful preseason for the Waves.
The squad was picked to finish fourth in the conference after receiving 59 points in the 2018 preseason poll. This poll is drafted early on in the summer and is voted on by the 10 head coaches in the WCC. BYU, which is ranked No. 8 in the nation, was given the top spot with nine first place votes and 81 total points. No. 14 San Diego State had one first place vote and 73 points to earn the second spot, and Pepperdine rival Loyola Marymount was given third place with 61 points. Pepperdine was able to snatch up the fourth spot for themselves. The remaining top 10 in order of the preseason poll were Gonzaga, Santa Clara, Saint Mary’s, Portland Pacific and San Francisco.
Frohling is the only Pepperdine player to make it on the All-WCC preseason team, while BYU put up five players and San Diego and LMU earned two spots each on the squad.
Frohling, an Oklahoma native, was an integral part of the Waves’ 2017 season as she earned an all-WCC honorable mention while also obtaining spots on the CoSIDA Academic All-District first team and WCC All-Academic first team squads. She led the Waves with 3.69 kills/sets and 35 aces, while accumulating a team-best 498.0 points on the year.
