The Malibu High boys soccer team’s high scoring season ended last week.
The Frontier League champions finished the year with a 17-7-2 record, after falling in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division VI playoffs on Feb. 16. The Sharks were defeated by the Brentwood School, 2-1.
Malibu really shined during the league schedule this season.
The squad won the Frontier League with a 10-1-1 record, and had the conference’s highest scoring offense with 49 goals. League opposition Bishop Diego, Foothill Tech, Santa Clara, St. Bonaventure, Thacher and Villanova Prep only scored a total of 18 points against Malibu.
The Sharks’ biggest win of the season was a Feb. 6, 10-0 victory over Bishop Diego. Malibu also tallied nine goals while defeating Villanova Prep on Jan. 24.
Accounting for the whole season and the playoff game, Malibu outscored their opponents 57-34 during their 2016-17 campaign.
Ignacio Rodriguez, coach of the Frontier League’s top team, said the squad worked extremely hard all year.
