The following was addressed to Zan Marquis, owner of Point Dume Village.
The city of Malibu and Point Dume beg of you to let the Dume Room stay in Malibu’s Point Dume Village. We have collected over 1,000 signatures from area residents and we are using the press to voice our concerns over your plan to shut down this legendary business. You will be terribly upsetting the people of this community and you will not be a very popular person in town.
I have seen first-hand the great mix of people that come into the Dume Room. This is not a bar where just a bunch of drunks hang out, this is a place where people gather over love, death, local disasters, political ideas, music, laughs and to get away from the everyday stresses of life. Please call me; we would like to meet with you and discuss some sort of compromise. We are also going to be at the City Council meeting to protest your actions against our beloved Dume Room.
John Wayne drank there and it’s the best music scene in Malibu. You will be doing a terrible injustice to the citizens of Malibu and that is very bad business. I have lived in this area for over 20 years now. I’m 41 and trust me when I say the people of Malibu will not support any development or vision you have planned for this plaza. You will lose money and will not have too many tenants who can afford to stay in business. Realize the charm of Malibu and its people. The people of Point Dume do not want Beverly Hills by the sea. I would like to hear back from you regarding this matter.
