Over the weekend, artists from all over Southern California showcased their artwork at the 44th annual Malibu Arts Festival, produced by the Malibu Chamber of Commerce. The Malibu Library parking lot on Civic Center Way was transformed into a gallery filled with a unique collection of mixed media artwork, including paintings, photography, jewelry, glass art, metal, clay and wood sculptures, repurposed and recycled art, and much more.
Local merchants and organizations — including Pinnacle Clothing, California Wildlife Center and Malibu Film Society — joined the festivities, selling goods and sharing information. The sounds of local musicians streamed throughout the festival as people sipped on wine and picnicked on the lawn. Pepperdine hosted a variety of children’s activities.
Artist Wes Van Dyke, son of actor Barry Van Dyke and grandson of entertainer Dick Van Dyke, has showcased his work at the Malibu Arts Festival for seven years. Wes, who has been into art since he was “old enough to hold a crayon,” said he began painting at 12 years old. “I look forward to this festival all year,” Wes shared. “I absolutely love it here and all the people I get to meet. It’s home for me.”
