Anne Veronica Bader

Longtime resident of Malibu and Calabasas Anne Veronica Bader passed away Aug. 14 at age 89.

Bader was born on June 17, 1926 in Paterson, N.J. to Mary and Joseph Leonard. Her father died at a very young age leaving her mother to raise Anne and her baby brother Joe Jr.

In 1943, after Bader graduated high school, the three of them took a greyhound bus to Southern California. She got a job as a secretary at Metropolitan Life in Santa Monica. In 1951, Bader met and married the love of her life, Ed. They moved to Malibu and started raising their family in a house Ed built by himself on Point Dume.

Bader retired to be a full time mom, but in 1969, she faced a life-altering event when Ed suddenly died, sending her back to work to support her young children.

Bader worked at the neighborhood Photo Stop until finding long-term employment at the Malibu Post Office.

“She was a model employee and developed wonderful friendships that endured long after retirement — especially her good friend, Trudy,” a loved one shared.

Bader was a member of Our Lady of Malibu Church, where she could be found in the second pew on the left side at 7 a.m. mass every Sunday. She joined a bible study group and took part in many church activities.

In 1996, she left Malibu and moved to a smaller place in Calabasas. She spent 19 years in her new community.

Bader is survived by her children Carol (Rick) Davis, Patrick (Judy) Bader and Theresa Bader; grandchildren Rick (Elaena) Davis Jr., Shaun (Linda) Davis, Teddy (girlfriend Cate) Bader, Andrew Bader and Noel Bader; great grandchildren Racheal, Nicole, Chloe, Kira and Liam; many nieces and nephews; and her lifelong friend Dottie.

“It is doubtful Anne realized the deep impression she made on people, but her family knew and would hear often how wonderful a person she was,” a loved one said. “She will be missed more than we can say.”
