The Malibu High School Sharks varsity baseball team swept its three-game series with Fillmore High School, moving the team to 6-1 in league play and 16-3 overall, putting the local team in first place.

In the final game of the series, sophomore Andre Simoneau went for five strong innings, giving up one unearned run to earn the win before junior standout Chase Lambert threw two scoreless innings to earn his sixth save of the year.

Chase Lambert singled to lead off the game and took second on a Dylan Ross sacrifice. Lambert stole third base, and sophomore Austin George scored him on an RBI sacrifice fly to take an early 1-0 lead.

Freshman Ezra Allen hit an RBI double to right center to score senior Alvaro “Alvie” Alvarado, who had two more hits.

Sophomore Bronson Bard went one for three and drew a bases-loaded RBI walk, giving the Sharks their third and final run of the game.

The stellar pitching of Simoneau and Lambert, who pitched five and two innings respectively, did not allow an earned run, and the final score of the last game of the series was 3-1.

The Sharks beat Fillmore all three times, with a 6-4 score in the first game, 7-0 in the second and 3-1 in the final, to earn the three game series sweep.

The Sharks win moves them to 6-1 in league play, putting them all alone at first place and 16-3 overall on the season.

The Sharks have eight league games left before playoffs, and one more win will equal the school record for wins. The Sharks have their sights set on the best year in Malibu history, a league title and deep CIF playoff run.

Next, the Sharks take on Santa Clara High School. The Malibu team plays Santa Clara on Wednesday at Santa Clara; and again back at home on Friday. The Sharks beat Santa Clara 3-2 earlier in the year. Santa Clara currently sits at 3-3 in league play.
