Winter Storm Warning

The National Weather Service has issued flash flood and wind advisory warnings for Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 8-9. According to a graphic shared by Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station on social media, moderate to heavy rain and wind gusts of up to 70 miles per hour can be expected in Malibu, the Santa Monica Mountains and surrounding areas.

Residents are advised to watch out for debris flow (especially near burn areas), small stream flooding and downed tress/power lines.

The sheriff’s station is also asking residents and visitors to avoid hiking and unnecessary driving through canyons.

Put off your hikes for a couple of days and be careful driving the slick roads and canyons,” a notice from the station requested.

The wind advisory warning is in effect until 12 p.m.; the flash flood warning is in effect until 10 p.m. the same day.
