Malibu Times Multimedia Director Julie Ellerton hit the streets this week to ask, “What do you do with Halloween candy?”
“Someone recommended I give it to the Children’s Hospital, but then when I thought about it, I realized that would make the children sicker, so I just throw it in the trash. The trashcan can’t get sick. Or I could send it to Monsanto and I bet they could come up with some kind of Round-up or rodenticide with it.”
“My daughter Riley, who attends Our Lady of Malibu school, gets to choose five to 10 pieces of candy, and then the Halloween fairy takes the rest away and gives it to charity.”
“After they get home from trick-or-treating, they pour their candy in one big pile on the floor and then divide it up. After that, they start trading it.”
“I let my son Vladimir keep about one quarter of the candy he gets on Halloween night, and the rest we donate to Webster Elementary, where they collect the candy for children’s hospitals, Westside Food Bank and other charities.”
“I have two children, Ailey who goes to Webster Elementary and Emme who attends Sycamore School. We keep our Halloween candy for a little while and then bring it to Webster where they donate to charities.”
