Coastal Tells Malibu: No Dice On Pier Parking

0

It seems that if Malibu’s for it … Coastal is against it …

The commission moves against the city over parking on PCH.

The Coastal Commission was unrestricted 24 hour access along the beach.

Santa Monica … meanwhile … is about to remove beach access 230 parking spaces downtown.

L A County issues its first business license to a pot store … it’s in Malibu.

This is Malibu’s only local daily news.

It’s the   ((((  Thursday  ))) edition of the news … from Radio Malibu  …. 97 point 5 K B U.

Good morning Malibu!

Napa-Area Fire Toll Increases

The death toll is now 25 [[[11am update]]] in the series of fires in the Napa and Santa Rosa areas.

Firefighters from LA county and city are in northern California.

There are no major fires in the L-A or Ventura County area.

Fire weather warnings go up in the Malibu mountains tonight … for a mild but dry Santa Ana wind.

Pier Review Flunks At Coastal

The California Coastal staff are seeking to derail the city’s plan to restrict overnight parking on P C H near the Malibu Pier.

Commissioners Susan Bochco and Mark Vargas agree.

The city is trying to come up with a way to get rid of a commercial business that has set up on a permanent basis on PCH … preventing beach users from using thos  spots nest to the pier.

Their plan … limit parking to 30 minutes between 2 and 4 in the morning.

That would supposedly mean those trailers … where a local businessman stores his kayaks … would have to be stored somewhere else.

Coastal staff says no.

They say the city should find a place for the vehicles…. and allow a certain number of

visitor serving commercial operations … that rely on highway parking … in certain areas at certain times.

The City could also change its enforcement strategy to promote turnover of recreational vehicles and enhance access for smaller vehicles by

providing new parking areas or extended hours in popular areas that are currently restricted.

Says Coastal staff … and we quote … “ 30 minutes does not provide adequate time for

members of the public to access the beach, enjoy a moonlight walk along the sand, observe a

grunion run, or go swimming or surfing. “

Remember … this is at 2 in the morning.

The matter was to go before the Coastal Commission today … in Chula Vista … but might be postponed.

But … Santa Monica To Remove 230 Beach Parking Spots

Meanwhile … Coastal staff has no problem with the elimination of  230 beach access parking spaces are going to be sacrificed in Santa Monica … to build an Early Childhood Lab School next to to the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.

Santa Monica College wants to build three buildings … one to two-stories each … in the big parking lot next to the Civic Auditorium.

Coastal staff is recommending approval … they say that while 230 parking spaces may be lost … there is plenty of parking in downtown Santa Monica.

The matter goes before the California Coastal Commission today … meeting in Chula Vista.

99 High Tide Gets 1st LA Pot Business License

The 99  High Tide Collective in Malibu is in Forbes magazine this week.

With California legalizing marijuana …. the owner of 99 High Tide Collective says she is the first cannabis business to get a formal business license in the Los Angeles area.

That’s because of a quirk … the city of Malibu became a city 26 years ago and chose not to take over business licensing … it left that up to the county.

The owner … Yvonne DeLaRosa Green …. tells Forbes that once she got building permits … the county was obligated to provide her an actual business license for the cannibis business.

That would be the first business license in the county.

The county tax collector and Malibu city officials are quoted by Forbes in agreement.

It’s not a cannabis license per se, but instead a business license that recognizes a dispensary to pay taxes to L.A. County.

Malibu -Venues- Defaults To Tommy Hilfiger

City News Service is reporting that fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger has won a default judgment of nearly $60,000 against a home rental company over a Malibu house rental.

An LA Judge Richard granted Hilfiger judgment against Malibu Venues … a Wyoming company … for $58,588, which includes interest and costs.

Malibu Venues defaulted by not responding to the lawsuit.

We should point out that this is NOT Malibu Locations … a different company.

The breach-of-contract suit alleges that Hilfiger rented a house in Malibu for five nights for $53,000.

Less than a month later … the rent went up … Hilfiger refused to agree to the sudden rental fee increase and demanded a full refund

The money was never returned.

CPUC Can’t Figure Out What’s Happening In Criminal Probe

Lawyers for the California Public Utilities Commission say they can’t get a straight answer from the state Attorney General’s Office about a long-running corruption investigation into the regulatory agency.

This is regarding the San Onofre nuclear waste dump … 75 miles down the coast from Malibu.

The C P U C wants to get back … the 1.2 million documents provided to investigators given back.

At least 11 subpoenas and search warrants issued since 2014.

Under former Attorney General Kamala Harris, state agents were investigating improper backchannel dealings between CPUC regulators and Southern California Edison over the

the self-destructive failure of the San Onofre nuclear plant … in San Diego County … in 2012.

And the San Diego newspaper reports that .. five years after the San Onofre nuclear plant leaked radiation and closed for good … state utility regulators have laid out a schedule for finding out what went exactly wrong.

The commission calls for new written testimony from the various parties to be filed as soon as January.

Evidentiary hearings will begin in Los Angeles in February …  public hearings will be held in L.A. and San Diego in March.

More Horsepower Than My Old VW Opens in Camarillo

A big white tent has gone up off U-S 101 in Camarillo … near the outlet stores,

And when we say big … it’s 12 stories high.

The Ventura County Star reports this is the travelling home of Odysseo … they describe it as a horse show in the style of Cirque du Soleil.

Odysseo is from the Montreal-based Cavalia company … you might remember they had a similar show at Santa Monica Pier several years ago.

Odysseo includes acrobatics, 65 horses, stunt performers and special effects to tell the story of the relationship between human, horse and nature.

The show will run in Camarillo … its eight-week run starts on Nov. 11 .

which means it will be here over the Christmas holidays.

It’s pricey … tickets starts at about 50 dollars.
