[Update: 10:30 a.m.]: Both westbound lanes of traffic are now open on PCH east of the Malibu Pier, and one lane of eastbound traffic is now open, according to an alert from the City of Malibu. Traffic is still moving slowly in the area.

[Update: 8:43 a.m.]: Eastbound traffic is moving on PCH through the Malibu Pier area for the first time since 6:20 this morning, according to an alert from the City of Malibu. One lane of traffic is open in each direction, with eastbound traffic diverted onto a westbound lane.

Both eastbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway east of the Malibu Pier were closed Thursday morning, Oct. 22, due to a fatal accident that occurred at 6:20 a.m, according to Sergeant Ruda with the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station.

The accident involved a vehicle that struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian, an adult male, was pronounced dead on scene. The driver of the vehicle, its only passenger, was uninjured and stayed on scene.

The roadway was closed as of 8:15 a.m. Thursday, with Ruda predicting the closure would last “several hours.”

“They’re getting cones out there, and we have personnel, and we’re going to try to get eastbound traffic on the westbound lanes, and have one lane in each direction,” Ruda told The Malibu Times.

Detectives are on scene conducting an investigation.

“The detectives are there, and they’re doing their investigation,” Ruda said. “There’s several witnesses, and they’re doing what they have to do out there.”

This is a developing story.
