Bring back market

People in Malibu want and deserve a Farmer’s Market. The local Malibu group, Cornucopia, ran the Farmers Market successfully for six seasons, and they used all their proceeds to fund innovative environmental programs, especially the Environmental Learning Center in back of Malibu High School. This beautiful outdoor classroom is being used by kids from Kindergarten through college, as well as Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Several groups use this peaceful setting in nature for counseling. Every other Sunday is a community picnic potluck open to anyone in the community.

Over the last year, we’ve watched the City suddenly entertaining other vendors for the Farmer’s Market. Let’s face it! With only a few exceptions, the pool of farmers and food vendors are the same for all Southern California, only the operator would be different. The holdup, supposedly, is the discussion of the use of the Civic Center property-community college, expanded library, courts, and sheriff’s substation?

Our usual Farmer’s Market on Sundays wouldn’t impact them one iota. Let’s stop looking elsewhere and please stop dragging your feet, City of Malibu. Cornucopia has the experience and expends all of its time, energy, and money on Malibu. Has done so for years.
