School on Wheels to open new center
A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on Monday for the opening of a learning center in South Los Angeles. Malibu resident Agnes Stevens, executive director and founder of School on Wheels, will be there along with Board member Rev. Cecil “Chip” Murray and Los Angeles county and city government officials.
The ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. The center is located at 5500 South Western Ave. Founded in 1993, the organization helps local homeless children with getting school supplies and enrolling in school as well as tutoring. Help needed to support troops
Malibu residents are being asked to help prepare Memorial Day care packages for troops overseas. The packages are being prepared at a home located at 5810 Filaree Heights Ave. from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. To volunteer for the event, call 310.457.7034.
Items being requested for donation include sweets treats and DVDs. Also, money is needed to fund the $30 per box cost of each shipment. All donations are tax deductible. To donate items or money, call Cindy Linke at 310.457.4510.
State agency looking for new leader
Dan Preece, the district manager of the Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains, has decided to retire. The RCDSMM is looking for a replacement.
