The Pepperdine women’s basketball team defeated San Diego, 57-40, in the team’s best defensive game of the season last Saturday night. The win also gives the Waves a season sweep of the Toreros for the first time since 2011.

Pepperdine shot a 41.3 percent average, scoring 20 points in the paint and eight three-pointers — three of which came from redshirt freshman Sydney Bordonaro. Senior guard Allie Green put 11 points on the board; however, sophomore guard Yasmine Robinson-Bacote led the charge offensively, scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds during the match. The New Jersey native’s double-double marks her 10th of the season, making her the ninth Wave and first since 2001 to record 10 stat lines in a single season.

“We have matched up pretty well with [San Diego] this season,” Pepperdine head coach Ryan Weisenberg said in a press release provided to The Malibu Times. “We did a really good job today of keeping them out of the paint and forcing them into long shots. That was the game plan going in and the girls did a great job executing today.”

The win moves the Waves to 7-18 overall and 5-9 in West Coast Conference play.

Pepperdine has two more home games this week — Santa Clara tonight and hosting PCH Cup rival Loyola Marymount on Saturday’s senior day.
