In response to “City carelessness” published on March 7.
Unfortunately, nine residents whose homes were burned in the Woolsey Fire received automatically generated letters about alarm permit fees in error. Once city staff discovered the error, each resident was sent a letter apologizing for the error.
The letter also states that the account has been suspended and the alarm permit fees are being waived. The city staff understands that receiving an alarm permit fee bill for a house that was destroyed is very upsetting. All future alarm permit billings will be cross-checked against the address list of destroyed homes to ensure that does not happen again. Any resident with questions about their alarm permit or re-establishing a permit after rebuilding may contact the city’s finance department at 310.456.2489.
