Pizza deliveries will now have a side of poetry with the city’s Cultural Arts Commission and Malibu Poet Laureate Ricardo Means Ybarra’s latest venture: Pizza and Poetry.
Ybarra will be partnering with local pizza restaurants D’Amores Pizza and Spruzzo Restaurant & Bar for the program. The restaurants will be delivering poems written by Juan Cabrillo fourth and fifth graders as well as local high school students along with the pizzas.
The students’ poems were written during poetry workshops held as part of the city’s Art in Education program.
In a shared statement from the city, Mayor Rick Mullen said, “Malibu’s Poet Laureate breathes new life into the creative spirit of the city. This wonderful program inspires young people to learn how to master language and find new ways to express themselves.”
This program is the latest in a series of poetry-related programs. City of Malibu held its first annual poetry summit—”Call to the Wall”—in late May, which drew approximately 60 people.
