Newly appointed Mayor Skylar Peak has endorsed longtime friends Andy Lyon and Hamish Patterson for the upcoming Malibu City Council election.
Peak endorsed the Lyon-Patterson ticket over his current colleagues and incumbents, council members Laura Rosenthal and Lou La Monte.
“I’ve known [Lyon and Patterson] personally longer than any of the other council members,” Peak told The Malibu Times. “…And I think they have a lot of commitment to our community, and I think we work really well together.”
Peak has also worked with Patterson on attempts to locate a new skate park site for the city, an effort that has been unsuccessful since Papa Jack’s closed in 2011.
When asked why he chose not to support Rosenthal or La Monte, Peak said he thought Lyon and Patterson would provide “a little bit of a shift for the city.”
The city council election is on April 8, in which voters will decide who wins two seats on the council. Lyon and Patterson are running on a slate platform against newcomer June Louks and incumbents Rosenthal and La Monte.Â
