Dr. Laura Syunita of the UCLA Stein Eye Institute Mobile Eye Clinic adjusts settings on a machine during a vision exam. Syunita spent the day examining patients at Malibu CART's eye clinic held at the Malibu Library meeting room late September 2017.

The UCLA Mobile Eye Clinic will administer free eye exams for low income individuals on Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the meeting room inside Malibu Library. Limited appointments are available and need to be made in advance with Melissa Stallings at the Malibu Library reference desk.

The eye exams are conducted by a UCLA ophthalmologist, who will check for general eye health, give a refraction test for prescription lenses and provide glasses. The glasses will be mailed to the library in six to eight weeks, per Malibu Community Assistance and Resource Team (CART) member Ellen Cerniglia. Patients are asked to allow two to three hours for the eye exam.

The UCLA Mobile Eye Clinic has been providing free eye care services and glasses for underserved communities in Los Angeles County for more than 40 years. The clinic is a community outreach program sponsored by UCLA Stein Eye Institute and CART.

The Malibu Library is located at 23519 W. Civic Center Way.
