Written in response to “Merry Christmas,” published Dec. 19
What gall guest columnist Don Schmitz has to mansplain Hanukah to us. Hanukah is not an important holy day to Jews, nor is it the Jewish Christmas. It is a minor festival that has been misinterpreted by folks like Schmitz who don’t have a clue.
The “recent Farleigh Dickinson poll” Schmitz cites is from 2013. Their 2015 poll showed a nearly 50 percent increase in Americans who prefer “Happy Holidays.”
His citation of Maimonides is doctrinally incorrect, as well. Mr. Schmitz’s interpretation of Talmudic law is deeply offensive and uneducated.
